Financial Report

Basic Financial

Statement Analysis

The 3-week course aims to equip new entrepreneurs and business owners about the basis of how to analyze
financial statements from three different perspectives – as a banker, as a manager and as an investor. An
extensive finance and accounting background is not necessary as the course aims to guide the students step-
by-step through the financial statements and how to analyze them.

This is NOT a bookkeeping course as the students will not be asked to prepare financial statements, but rather how to read and interpret them in a way that will allow them to make sound business decisions.

Course Objectives

To provide the students with basic knowledge of financial statement analysis and its practical applications

in three areas:

a) credit analysis (from the point of view of bankers and creditors)

b) analysis for management (from the point of view of business owners and managers)

c) investment analysis (from the point of view of potential investors and analysts)

At the end of the course, students are expected to be able to analyze a company’s financial performance across time and across its industry peers, as well as to critically evaluate its credit worthiness from a lender’s standpoint, its profitability from management’s view, and its potential for growth and financial stability from a potential investor’s perspective.
